Taiwan Analysis Center for COSMIC (TACC) was established under the cooperation project for FORMOSAT-3 program between Central Weather Bureau (CWB) and Taiwan Space Agency (TASA) in September, 2002. FORMOSAT-3 program is an international collaboration project between Taiwan and the U.S. with joint efforts of Taiwan's National Space Organization and University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) of the U.S.
The goal of the project is to develop advanced technology for the real-time monitoring of the global environmental. This project is also named Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate, or FORMOSAT/COSMIC for short. UCAR also established COSMIC Data Analysis and Archive Center (CDAAC).
After FORMOSAT-3 was Launched, TACC and CDAAC synchronously operate program, including real-time data receive, process, archive, and release. Atmospheric and ionospheric high resolution retrieved products are generated and then delivered not only to domestic weather center but also worldwide research institute for scientific application and operation.Radio occultation technic has been approved to high positive impact to weather forecast and analysis, global space weather forecast, and others scientific research.
The success of FORMOSAT-3/COSMIC has prompted TASA and U.S. agencies (led by NOAA) to execute follow-on operational mission called FORMOSAT-7/COSMIC-2. FORMOSAT-7 program will extend the mission architecture from previous program that TACC and UCAR are in charge of Taiwan Data Processing Center (TDPC) and U.S. Date processing Center (USDPC) respectively. FORMOSAT-7 data products will be released in few months after satellite was launched at 25th June 2019.
